What did you study?
I graduated with a Master of Arts degree in translation (English-Italian-Dutch) from Ghent University. After that I specialised in Teacher Training and obtained a teaching diploma.
I had decided at a fairly young age that I wanted to study ‘Italian’. It wasn’t until the last year of secondary school that I started thinking about what ‘studying Italian’ actually meant. What field of study should I choose? After thorough reflection and research, I ended up in the Applied Linguistics degree programme, followed by a specialisation as Master in Translation. This programme increased my understanding of “language” and language as a means of communication.
What did you do in your previous job?
I worked in the insurance sector for more than 4 years, at a loss assessment office specialising in electrical and building damage. This included the preparation of assignments and processing incoming email. This combination gave me a good overview of the various ongoing cases, so that I often acted as an intermediary between the account managers and the planners.
How did you end up at Lingua Jura?
I was looking for a new professional challenge, one that was more in line with my studies. A short search session in Google and a vacancy listed on the Indeed website led me to Lingua Jura.
Why did you want to work at Lingua Jura?
The Lingua Jura website depicted a small and young team. Since I had worked for a long time at a company where there was close collaboration between managers and staff, it was difficult for me to imagine working at a large company where I wouldn’t know all my colleagues.
I got a first glimpse of the culture at Lingua Jura during the job interview: open, but with an eye for quality. I was enthusiastic about contributing to ensuring the quality service that Lingua Jura stands for, and to see if I could expand it further.
